Dawson Springs residents looking to clear out clutter will have the opportunity to utilize free disposal services during the upcoming “Spruce Up Dawson Springs” event.
The program, officially known as Dawson Springs SUDS, begins today (Friday) and will run through Monday, April 27. City officials say two free dumpsters, provided by the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, will be stationed behind the City Garage for public use.
Organizers noted that if a dumpster reaches capacity, a replacement will be brought in, with a limit of two total dumpsters for the duration of the event.
To assist the community, students from the Dawson Springs Interact (Junior Rotary) Club will offer hauling services for elderly residents. Because student availability is limited, residents requiring assistance must call or text Tammy Workman at 270-836-0463 to schedule a pickup.
According to officials, homeowners requesting help from the students must have all debris moved to the sidewalk and are required to sign a liability waiver.
Certain hazardous materials are strictly prohibited from the dumpsters. Items not allowed include:
Batteries
Tires
Paint
Oil
Gasoline
This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Hopkins County Fiscal Court and the Dawson Springs Interact Club.
