City Council OKs Right-of-Way Transfer and New Appointments

The Madisonville City Council on Monday approved a resolution to transfer a right of way to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and two new appointments to the Housing Authority Commission.

The council approved a resolution transferring ownership and maintenance of a right-of-way to the city from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for construction on part of Briarwood Drive, supporting improvements on North Main Street to Hospital Drive and Kentucky 281.

Acting City Engineer Justin Lamb explained that this supports the Kentucky Department of Transportation, Department of Highways’ project to widen and improve the bridge on North Main Street near Sonic, connecting it with earlier improvements and adding a wider turn lane and pedestrian walkways under the rail line.

During Monday’s meeting, Mayor Kevin Cotton issued two joint proclamations with the county—one honoring the 25th anniversary of the Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center, and another declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month for Sanctuary, Inc., both based in Hopkinsville.

He also presented a National Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation to CASA.
