Madisonville City Council Approves Fire Truck, Sewer Upgrade Bids

 

The Madisonville City Council handled a range of business Monday night, including approving bids for a new pumper fire truck and a sewer upgrade.

City Clerk Kim Blue presented two bids for a custom low-hosebed pumper truck, and the council unanimously approved the lowest bid, just north of $1,062,000.

click to download audioMayor Kevin Cotton noted the new pumper truck is expected to arrive in just over 14 months.

The council also accepted the lowest of four bids for sewer system improvements on the Rose Creek Road Sewer Extension of $455,664 from Koberstein Contracting.

click to download audioActing City Engineer Justin Lamb noted two positives with the project: the contractor is highly qualified, and the project won’t cost the city, as it’s funded through a Kentucky Economic Development grant and will be fully reimbursed to the city by the Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation. He explained the project.

click to download audioLamb said work on the project is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks, weather permitting, with the first phase involving boring under CSX.

In other action, the council unanimously declared 15 East Center Street and several transformers as surplus property, transferred a right-of-way to the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and approved two appointments to the Housing Authority Commission.
