Legislation sponsored by Fourth District State Representative Wade Williams of Earlington, which would allow candidates for state office to use campaign funds for security measures, has passed the Kentucky Senate

Williams says, with political tensions running high, it’s important to modernize campaign finance laws and provide protection for candidates and their families.

House Bill 136 would permit the use of campaign funds for security expenses, not only for candidates, but also for their family members, employees, and campaign offices. Lawmakers also made changes to remove the $15,000 spending cap for security in the original version of the bill.

Williams thanked both the House and Senate for supporting the measure, saying it will help candidates protect themselves during these uncertain times. The bill now heads to the governor’s desk for signature.
