A late-night police chase in Madisonville ended with the arrest of a dirt bike rider Tuesday night.

Madisonville Police say that just after 10:30 p.m., officers saw a dirt bike leave the Hucks gas station on South Main Street, with the rider heading toward Princeton Road without any taillights or headlamps.

When an officer tried to make a traffic stop on Victoria Street, police say the rider, later identified as 52-year-old Robert Keown, accelerated and ignored sirens. Officers say the pursuit continued onto West Jagoe Street, where Keown raced through a yard alongside the railroad tracks, eventually coming to a stop when his dirt bike got stuck in a ditch.

Following a brief chase on foot, authorities say Keown surrendered to officers without further incident. According to police, Keown said he ran because he had an outstanding warrant.

Keown faces several charges, including second-degree and third-degree fleeing or evading police. He was also served a Webster County District Court bench warrant for failure to appear. He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
