Drivers in Madisonville may want to plan for extra travel time this Thursday as crews demolish an abandoned building on North Main Street.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the abandoned structure at the corner of Main Street and Fawcett Street has recently deteriorated to an unsafe condition, necessitating removal. Officials say the building is located between Evolved Nutrition and Nu-Look Cleaners, near the 17-mile marker of U.S. 41.

Southbound traffic on North Main Street will remain open, with drivers allowed to use the center turning lane as needed. To keep motorists safe, the first entrance to Hanson Street will be blocked, but vehicles can still turn onto Hanson Street at the traffic signal.
