The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is urging residents to be mindful of the rules surrounding political signs and advertising on state highway property.

Officials say political signs and other advertising are not permitted on state highway right-of-way and should be removed as soon as possible.

Highway crews have the authority to remove these signs without prior notice to the owner. Signs that are taken down are typically held for 10 working days at the local Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway Maintenance Facility, giving owners the opportunity to reclaim them.

According to officials, any signs not claimed within that period will be destroyed.
