
Madisonville City Council approved funding for several major events and granted a street closure for a special celebration taking place in June.
Council Chairperson Frank Stevenson presided over Monday’s meeting, where Ward 1 Councilman Adam Townsend presented several funding requests from the Tourism Committee and Tourism Advisory Board during committee reports.
Townsend presented the Council with seven recommendations for new funding and one recommendation to reallocate funds previously approved.
The funding requests included:
+$30,000 for Madisonville Illuminated
+$75,000 for Madisonville Salutes
+$35,000 for Harvest Fest
+$175,000 for Wings Over Western Kentucky
+$150,000 for Deck the Park
+$20,000 for downtown lights and First United Bank Plaza décor
+25,000 for general events supplies and needs

In new business, City Clerk Kim Blue presented a request for a road closure on Sunday, June 28th, to accommodate the 250th Anniversary of the United States ceremony and the unveiling of a Revolutionary War Monument.
