A Madisonville man was arrested Thursday night on several charges, including DUI, drug possession, and assaulting a police officer.

According to Madisonville Police, officers responded to a residence on Whittington Drive shortly after 10:15 p.m. to serve an emergency protective order. When they arrived, officers said they found 29-year-old Joshua Offutt sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that matched earlier reports of erratic driving and possible impairment.

Officers said they observed open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle and noted that Offutt showed signs of intoxication. While being taken into custody for DUI, police said Offutt became aggressive.

During a search, officers said they found a baggie containing a white, crystal-like substance, believed to be meth, in Offutt’s pocket, along with additional alcoholic beverage containers in the vehicle.

As police attempted to place Offutt in a cruiser, he reportedly kicked officers and the vehicle, and beat his head against the window.

Offutt was charged with DUI – 2nd offense, third-degree assault of a police officer, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container, possession of meth, and resisting arrest.

He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail, where police reported a breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .233.
