The Dawson Springs Independent School Board at its recent meeting elected new officers, set meeting dates for this year, and approved the proposed calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.
At last week’s meeting, the board approved Wes Ausenbaugh as Board Chair, Meredith Hyde as Vice-Chair, and Amanda Almon as both Secretary and Treasurer. Each will serve a two-year term in these positions.
The board also set meeting dates for 2026, choosing the last Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Dawson Springs Board of Education Office, with exceptions for May, June, and December, which will be held on May 18, June 22, and December 14, respectively. The first meeting for 2027 is scheduled for January 25.
Board Treasurer Amanda Almon reported that the annual audit for fiscal year 2025 has been completed, with full details to be presented at next month’s board meeting.
click to download audioIn new business, the Board approved the 2026-2027 Draft Budget of just over $6 million, and accepted an offer of assistance from the Kentucky Department of Education’s School Facilities Construction Commission for $3,339. Almon said this amount will be added to the district’s building fund and allocated toward debt payments.
click to download audioThe Board approved the 2026-27 school calendar, which was recommended by Director of Pupil Personnel Todd Marshall and the District Calendar Committee. Marshall explained that the selected calendar spreads out Professional Development days, rather than clustering them all at the start of the year.
click to download audioHe noted that the last day for students is scheduled for May 26, 2027, with the closing day for faculty and staff on May 27. If needed, make-up days would be from May 28 through June 4.
