Hopkins County Sees Drop in Major Crimes, Record Jail Revenue in 2025

Hopkins County officials presented the Fiscal Court with statistics from 2025 for both the sheriff’s office and the jail.

Sheriff Matt Sanderson reported for 2025 that his department handled 23,921 service calls, served over 2,900 papers, and investigated more than 560 traffic collisions, with fatality numbers similar to last year.

click to download audioHe noted that serious crimes, including murders, rapes, robberies, and major burglaries, declined again in 2025.

click to download audioSanderson said the department’s vehicles covered a total of 524,082 miles in 2025, with deputies and staff averaging around 80 hours of training each year.

Hopkins County Jailer Mike Lewis reported that for the 2025 calendar year, the jail had over 3,200 bookings and saw nearly 180 people graduate from various jail programs, including the substance abuse and GED programs.

click to download audioLewis said that, as part of the community service program, they traveled nearly 15,000 miles within the county and provided over 15,000 miles of transportation in 2025.

He reported that financially, from the start of the fiscal year in July to date, the local jail has earned over $1 million from state housing incentives and more than $1.7 million from immigration housing.
