Hopkins Fiscal Court Adds Road, Hears Plastics Recycling Update

With just one action item, Hopkins County Fiscal Court magistrates received several reports at Tuesday’s meeting and approved adding a road to the county system.

In new business, magistrates gave the green light to a resolution from Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield to add Bob Corpus Lane to the county road system.

Judge Whitfield also declared February 3 to 13, 2026, as Family Resource and Youth Services Coordinators Appreciation Week in Hopkins County.

Before the department reports, Judge Whitfield thanked Public Works for their efforts during the recent winter storm.

After Whitfield’s remarks, Public Works Coordinator Harry Highfill shared that the county’s convenience centers will begin accepting plastics again soon.

He also announced that a charity ride at the ATV park has been scheduled for April 4th.

The Fiscal Court also heard from Emergency Management Director Nick Bailey, who said there were two disaster declarations due to flooding last year, with $124,000 received from FEMA and another $80,000 to $90,000 still pending approval.

Sheriff Matt Sanderson and Jailer Mike Lewis presented their 2025 annual reports to the Fiscal Court. WFMW’s News Edge will provide more details from those reports in the coming days.
