Madisonville Police Chief Briefs Council on Cybercrime Training Facility Funding

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Madisonville City Council received an update from the police chief on the $2.5 million in federal funding recently awarded for a new cybercrime training facility.

As previously reported by WFMW’s News Edge, U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell recently announced he had secured $2.5 million in federal funding for equipment for a new cybercrime training facility in Madisonville. The funding, part of the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bill, passed the U.S. Senate last week and now awaits President Trump’s signature.

Chief Steve Bryan described the new training facility as an exciting development for law enforcement, specifically in Madisonville. Bryan said he’s hopeful that the $2.5 million in funding will help address important gaps they have in law enforcement. He explained that the department stays busy responding to domestics, wrecks, and daily calls of keeping the public safe, leaving limited time to keep up with rapidly changing technology. With this new facility, Bryan said this will give them a chance to get caught up and potentially “get ahead of the curve.”
