The Hopkins County Fiscal Court heard an update on Tuesday regarding the progress of the Humane Society’s temporary shelter, which is expected to open in February.
Executive Director Dustin Potenza stated that renovations at the temporary Dulin Street facility are 98% complete, with an anticipated opening date scheduled for next month.

click to download audioHe also mentioned that the temporary facility will continue to be used after operations move to the new facility on Laffoon Trail, once construction is completed.
click to download audioIn response to a question about rehiring employees who were laid off after the original facility was severely damaged by a tornado on April 2nd, Potenza said those employees will be offered their positions back. He noted that while they have contacted several former staff members, most declined to return, with only one choosing to come back.
