Madisonville Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Large Amount of Meth, Fentanyl

A traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Madisonville on Friday led to the arrest of a Louisville man on multiple drug trafficking charges.

Madisonville Police said around 9:20 a.m., Friday, Jan. 9th, a Criminal Interdiction unit officer conducted a traffic stop near the 114-mile marker on I-69 after observing a vehicle traveling northbound commit multiple traffic violations.

During the stop, officers reportedly detected a strong smell of marijuana. They said a further investigation revealed the driver, 39-year-old Bobby Riley, had a suspended license.

According to police, a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected meth, suspected fentanyl, marijuana, prescription pills, digital scales, and glass pipes.

Authorities reported the suspected crystal meth weighed approximately 669.4 grams, equivalent to 2,677 dosage units. They said the bag of suspected fentanyl laced powdered meth weighed 37.6 grams, equivalent to 376 dosage units.

Riley was taken into custody and charged with careless driving, driving on a DUI-suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, and trafficking meth and trafficking fentanyl. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
