A home in Madisonville was damaged in a fire over the weekend.

The Madisonville Fire Department reports that three engines and a rescue unit responded to a structure fire at 309 Bernard Road shortly after 10:00 a.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, firefighters said they saw light smoke coming from the attic vent and found a hot spot in the ceiling, which was removed to gain access to spray water and foam into the ceiling space.

Officials believe the fire may have been caused by an electrical issue, and noted that the fire was found around the wiring and an exhaust fan in the kitchen. They said the occupant stated he had lost power and replaced some fuses in the panel shortly before noticing the smell of smoke.

Fire crews remained on the scene for about an hour, and there were no injuries reported.

According to the report, the occupant remained in the home, and the fire caused approximately $10,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
