Hopkins Fiscal Court OKs FEMA Reimbursement Resolution

The Hopkins County Fiscal Court moved forward on a resolution for FEMA reimbursements and a payment toward the new Sheriff’s Office facility.

Hopkins County Emergency Management Director Nick Bailey presented the FEMA contract to magistrates, noting it will cover reimbursements related to the Valentine’s Day flooding event.

click to download audioWhen asked about the county’s share of the $200 million total, Bailey said that amount is still being determined.

click to download audioDistrict 6 Magistrate Charlie Beshears of Dawson Springs inquired whether Hurricane Creek was part of the litigation, but Bailey clarified that the contract pertains only to infrastructure repairs.

click to download audioFollowing the discussion, magistrates unanimously approved the resolution authorizing Judge Whitfield to sign the contract.

In other new business, magistrates gave unanimous approval to a payment of about $821,364 to Downey Professional Construction for the new Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office facility.

During the meeting, after receiving approval for a few fee budget amendments, Sheriff Matt Sanderson shared an update on his plans for moving into the new building.

click to download audioHe said everything is progressing as planned, and once the new building is open to the public, he hopes to hold a grand opening and possibly a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

click to download audioThe new building is located at 3100 Grapevine Road, close to the Interstate 69 entrance just south of Madisonville and near the West Kentucky Archery Complex.

Magistrates also approved a $40,000 funding recommendation from the Opioid Fund Committee for renovations.
