For nearly two decades, and every October, the WKDZ/WHVO Radio Metroplex in Cadiz has served as a hub for holistic health and healing those whose malaise turns into malignancy.

Friday afternoon, the 16th Annual “Pink Out!” event again headlined Breast Cancer Awareness Month — and the importance of early detection, resilience, determination and the kinship needed through struggle and sacrifice.

Edge Media Group President & CEO Beth Mann, herself a survivor of the most common cancer in women, noted months of proceeds were headed to The Pink Ribbon Network — a group she knows well.

Ann Isom, of the organization, remains grateful for the regional fundraising efforts — which now because of the News Edge have tendrils through WPKY Radio in Princeton, WEKT Radio in Elkton and eventually WFMW Radio in Madisonville.

Herself a two-time survivor, Isom remains undeterred.

A recent winner of the Third Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival Ham & Biscuit Contest, Mike Hammond snagged $2,500 in the name of The Pink Ribbon Network, by eating 8 ½ in 10 minutes — and because of a cause he holds dear.

Just recently, the Ladies Guild of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Trigg County held a fashion show, and raised $400 for The Pink Ribbon Network, as well.

City of Hopkinsville’s Amanda Brunt, Christian County’s Jerry Gilliam, City of Cadiz’s Todd King and Trigg County’s Stan Humphries all joined for declarations, proclaiming October as “Breast Cancer Awareness” Month and October 24 as “Pink Out” Day in their respective communities.

And while gains are made daily in the fight against all cancers, particularly of the breast, Humphries said statistics remain staggering — and work remains on the front.

Mann noted that there are at least two other local non-profit organizations that remain entrenched against cancer, in general: Christian County Relay for Life and Trigg County Relay for Life.

The former was the state’s first-ever chapter after forming in 1993, and the latter frequently earned top fundraising per capita status, and to this day still has its annual Survivors Dinner sponsored by The Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company.
