Hanson Water Valve Replacement Funded By Hopkins Fiscal Court

Hopkins County Fiscal Court will assist in replacing a water valve in Hanson following a request at Tuesday’s meeting.

Officials from the city of Hanson made the request for assistance in paying for the valve replacement that will cost an estimated $37,200. The old valve, that has been in place for more than 30 years, is getting harder to repair and could fail at any time. Fifth District Magistrate Billy Parrish began the discussion. He said there are several other issues facing Hopkins County that also need to be funded. Following discussion, magistrates voted unanimously to pay for the replacement. County Treasurer said the project was not budgeted for and the money would have to be taken from other funds. Magistrates voted to take the money from the Community Development fund.

Court also voted to hold a public hearing concerning the possible closing Huddleston Road. The bridge on the road is no longer safe to use. A date for the public hearing will be scheduled and announced later.

Dawson Springs Mayor Jenny Sewell and Ray Hageman addressed fiscal court about expanding funds for the spec building in the city.

Mayor Sewell also said tornado recovery is continuing to go well. She said 100 new houses are under construction. Mayor Sewell also said rebuilding of the city park and swimming pool are on track.

Sanitation Department Head Harry Highfill told fiscal court the ATV Park will close October 31 and will reopen next spring.

And the court presented a proclamation to the Hopkins County Business and Professional Womens Club declaring October 20 through the 24th as Business and Professional Women’s week in Hopkins County.

Magistrate Charlie Beshears was elected Interim Judge Executive to preside over the meeting in the absence of Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield who is on his honeymoon.
