At last week’s Hopkins County Fiscal Court meeting, officials approved a sheriff’s budget correction, discussed new equipment, and heard reports on ATV trails that have drawn hundreds of riders to the area.
Sheriff Matt Sanderson informed magistrates of an error in the 2025 1st Quarter Fee Account Budget that needed to be corrected.

During the reports, Public Works Coordinator Harry Highfill announced he had received two estimated bids for a compactor.

He also told the court that roughly 400 people have visited the reopened ATV trails and provided data on the out-of-county riders.
click to download audioHe announced the ATV trails will close for the season on October 31 and reopen on the first Saturday in April.
Highfill also asked to remove a trackhoe from the Road Department’s surplus list, previously approved by the fiscal court, so it could be transferred to the Sanitation Department.
