Two Madisonville men face drug trafficking charges after police responded to a shoplifting call at a Kroger on Island Ford Road on Wednesday night.
According to Madisonville Police, when officers arrived, they made contact with 38-year-old Andrew Gamblin and noticed the smell of marijuana, and found marijuana, methamphetamine, Suboxone pills, and drug paraphernalia in his backpack.
Gamblin was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), second-degree possession of a controlled substance, pubic intoxication excluding alcohol, failure to surrender revoked operator’s license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said a second man, 41-year-old Matthew Waddle, was found at the intersection of Island Ford Road and Lantaff Boulevard and also appeared under the influence. During a search of his backpack, police said they found the stolen store items from Kroger, suspected meth, Clonazepam pills, mushrooms, a scale, and drug paraphernalia.
Waddle was arrested and charged with public intoxication excluding alcohol, second-degree possession of a controlled substance (hallucinogen), possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, and prescription controlled substance not in proper container.
Both men were lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
