A Madisonville teen is facing a fraud charge after police say he attempted to use a credit card that was found at a local movie theater.
According to the Madisonville Police, 18-year-old Zane McKinney was arrested on a warrant on Saturday, October 4, for the fraudulent use of a credit card, with a value of over $1,000 but less than $10,000.
Police say the charge stems from an investigation into a September 21st fraud complaint at Golden Ticket Cinemas, where a man reported losing his wallet and received alerts the next day that someone had attempted to use his card on Cashapp. Authorities said they spoke with an employee at the theater who said McKinney had found the wallet and attempted to return it, but he wasn’t seen taking anything out of it on surveillance video.
Police said they interviewed McKinney on September 29th, and he admitted to placing the wallet into a receptacle, then later using the card information on Cashapp. Police noted the transactions were flagged as fraudulent, and the victim did not lose any money.
Following the issuance of a warrant, McKinney was arrested on Saturday, October 4, and booked into the Hopkins County Jail and released the same day.
