Drivers need to be aware that the contractor working on the U.S. 41A widening project in Madisonville intends to block KY 1018/Baldwin Drive early next week to begin construction of a new intersection that will align with the future path of the widening roadway.

Baldwin Drive, located in front of the KYTC Hopkins County Maintenance Barn, serves as a connecting road between U.S. 41A and Bean Cemetery Road.

Crews are scheduled to close the roadway at around 8 a.m. on Monday, October 6, with plans to reopen it to traffic by approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8.

According to KYTC officials, this project is part of a larger, ongoing highway improvement effort with a budget of $16.7 million and is scheduled for completion by Christmas 2026.

The project includes upgrades to U.S. 41-A from Yorkwood Place at mile marker one point two five, to Industrial Drive at mile marker three point three. It will connect with previous improvements and widen the section between Yorkwood Place and U.S. 41, also known as North Main Street.

Officials say most of the project will involve brand new construction, and drivers are expected to face only minor traffic delays during the main phase of work. Near the GE plant, traffic has already been shifted onto a temporary roadway, so crews can complete the permanent road construction safely away from passing vehicles.

They say the project will bring a new traffic layout to U.S. 41-A, including a safer intersection with KY 1034, or Rose Creek Road. This intersection will be relocated to connect with the new section of U.S. 41-A, where construction has already begun north of the current roadway. The existing five-lane stretch that ends at Yorkwood Place will extend about half a mile to the new intersection, then shift to a two-lane road with a turning lane and wider shoulders through to Industrial Drive.
