Ray Shearon/Hopkins County Jail mugshot
A Dawson Springs man is facing multiple charges following a domestic violence incident on Monday afternoon.
According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 1100 block of Racetrack Road shortly after 12:15 p.m., where they learned that 53-year-old Ray Shearon had assaulted his wife. They said witnesses reported that Shearon choked his wife, leaving her on the ground and barely responsive, and also struck their daughter when she attempted to assist.
Deputies said Shearon’s wife was taken by ambulance to a hospital with minor injuries, where she told authorities her husband had pushed her down and strangled her until she lost consciousness. They noted that another witness informed them that Shearon had firearms inside the home.
Deputies said Shearon was uncooperative and threatened self-harm, and came out of the home with an AR-15 rifle before being safely taken into custody.
Shearon was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fourth-degree domestic violence assault with minor injury, and first-degree strangulation. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
