Collaboration For Temporary Home-Delivered Senior Meals Solution

The Pennyrile Area Development District and Pennyrile Allied Community Services have announced a revised plan to keep home-delivered meals available to seniors despite recent funding reductions.

Effective immediately, meal delivery will shift to three days per week.

This week, meals have gone and will go out Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Starting October 6, deliveries will move to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Thanks to supplemental funds contributed by both PeADD and PACS, the program will continue serving all current clients for the next seven weeks. After that, unless a funding solution is found at the state and/or federal level, the program will be forced to reduce its client list for the rest of the fiscal year.

At present, the nine-county region has more than 760 seniors on the roll. PeADD Executive Director Jason Vincent confirmed last week that the reduction would require trimming below 300 clients.

Vincent said this plan “buys some time,” but warned that without restored funding, many seniors could lose access to meals, and that only those with the “highest needs” would remain under care. Meanwhile, PACS Executive Director Harold Monroe noted the program provides not only nutrition but also valuable personal contact for seniors.

Participants are being notified of the changes with written communication delivered alongside meals this afternoon.
