Richard Senay/Hopkins County Jail mugshot
A Paducah man was charged with drug trafficking after a traffic stop in Madisonville Thursday night.
Madisonville Police say they stopped 44-year-old Richard Senay on North Lee Trover Todd Highway just after 11 p.m., after officers recognized him as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation and noticed his vehicle had an illegible temporary tag and a license plate light that was out.
When officers made contact with Senay, they said he was wearing items reported stolen in a previous case from the night before, and appeared visibly nervous. They noted he was also unable to provide a valid insurance card.
Police said a K9 unit detected the scent of narcotics inside the vehicle, and during a search, they found suspected methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana, drug paraphernalia, scales, multiple small baggies, and a handgun. When Senay was arrested, officers noted they also discovered a significant amount of meth and crushed Xanax pills on him.
Senay was charged with trafficking meth, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of meth and synthetic marijuana, and failure of the owner to maintain required insurance. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
