Hopkins County Fiscal Court heard from Sheriff Matt Sanderson that due to the delay on the new sheriff’s office off Grapevine Road, he requested a delay of the tax collection for Hopkins County. Instead of starting tax collection in October, tax collection for Hopkins County will begin in November. Taxpayers will still be able to get the discount during the discount period. The delay was accepted.
Allan Rudd gave a report from the ambulance board stating there are 3 full-time ambulances – 2 in Madisonville and 1 in Dawson Springs. There is a 4th ambulance that runs Monday – Friday from noon to 8:00 pm. Rudd reported that the ambulance requests are down compared to last year.
A major portion of the meeting was during the “Comments from Citizens” part of the meeting. Mr. Mike Sherman of Bradley Sisk Rd came to complain about the new outside gun range run by a new gun shop. Sherman said they shoot at all hours of the day, but not at night. It creates a lot of noise. Second is the safety concern, as some shoot metal targets that ricochet out into the roadway and onto some residents’ property. Sebrina Ladd said the bullets have whizzed overheard in her yard across the street.
Hopkins County has no ordinance(s) on Gun Ranges. County Attorney Lee Riddle will research such ordinances and look at other county ordinances. He will report back to the court on the matter.
