A Nebo man accused of assaulting two people with his vehicle and leading deputies on a pursuit was arrested on multiple charges Friday night.
According to the Hopkins Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a complaint at 100 North Hoffman Street in Nebo, where two individuals alleged that Steven Russo used a motor vehicle to assault them. One individual was reportedly struck and dragged alongside the vehicle during its movement. Deputies said one of the individuals was removed from the scene and treated by Med Center Ambulance Service.
Deputies said they located Russo and his vehicle near the initial incident site. When approached, Russo reportedly fled in the vehicle, traveling from Nebo to the intersection of Highway 502 and Highway 1034, where he turned around and returned to the scene. Authorities said Russo then got out of the vehicle and ran, but was apprehended.
Russo was taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree fleeing and evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing and evading police on foot, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of controlled substances under aggravating circumstances, operating on a suspended or revoked license, possession of synthetic drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
