About 500 Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters and supporting units at Fort Campbell will deploy in early October to the U.S. Southern Border.

The division will assume command from the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) and serve as Joint Task Force headquarters, overseeing U.S. service members from multiple branches operating along the border.

The mission falls under U.S. Northern Command, which coordinates with the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection to secure and protect U.S. territorial integrity. While the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters will provide leadership, units assigned to the task force will be positioned at various locations across the southern United States.

The deployment marks another significant assignment for the 101st, known as the “Screaming Eagles,” which has a long history of answering national calls for service. Maj. Gen. David Gardner, Commanding General of the division and Fort Campbell, noted the unit’s readiness and commitment to continue the work started by the 10th Mountain Division while supporting Northern Command and interagency partners in the region.

This deployment underscores the Army’s ongoing role in assisting border operations and highlights the 101st Airborne Division’s continued leadership in national defense.
