Team Kentucky has announced a $2 million grant to help one of the state’s public universities or colleges develop grid solutions that keep power running during outages.
The funding will support projects that create innovative ways to maintain electricity during disruptions caused by storms, flooding, or other severe weather events. It will also focus on improving energy efficiency, reducing costs, and utilizing new technology. This marks the first time the grant has been made available in Kentucky.
The grant is funded through the U.S. Department of Energy and the State Energy Program as part of the Kentucky Resilient Microgrid Program.
To help institutions prepare, a public webinar will be held September 4 to provide an overview of the program and answer application-related questions. Applications open September 15 and must be submitted electronically by 4:30 PM October 31.
This initiative builds on the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen energy resilience. Earlier this year, more than $6 million in grants were awarded through the Kentucky Grid Resilience Grant Program to improve electric reliability in four communities.
Last month, $15.6 million was committed to enhancing grid dependability at Kentucky state parks and assisting families affected by catastrophic weather.
