Members of the Madisonville Lions Club learned about the vital role of the Madisonville Regional Airport during an update at this week’s meeting.
Club officials say Victoria Davenport, who became airport manager in August 2024, brings a strong passion for aviation and earned her private pilot license through Madisonville Community College.
Davenport emphasized the significant economic contributions of the local airport to the community. She noted that businesses value the convenience of flying in for meetings, the airport generates general aviation employment, and it supports educational initiatives through tours and school visits. Additionally, the airport collaborates closely with tourism and serves as a crucial hub during emergencies. Madisonville Community College now offers training programs for fixed-wing and helicopter pilot licenses, as well as an airplane mechanics course.
Davenport noted the airport hosts some of the largest local events like April’s Beach Bash in the Bluegrass, which drew more than 120 planes last year, as well as the Wings Over Western Kentucky Air Show coming up on October 4, with gates opening at 2 PM. The show kicks off at 5 PM and includes both day and night displays.
