Aaron Cates/Hopkins County Jail mugshot
A Madisonville man is facing charges after police responded to a shots-fired call on North Russell Drive Monday afternoon.
Madisonville Police arrived just after 2 p.m. and spoke with the victim, who reported that 46-year-old Aaron Cates had fired three shots at him with a black rifle. Officers said they spoke with Cates and found .22 caliber shell casings outside his front door. Authorities say Cates admitted to shooting at the victim, and officers recovered the rifle from his bedroom.
Police noted the home is located about 100 feet from the intersection of North Main Street and U.S. Highway 41, putting nearby drivers and residents at serious risk of death or severe injury.
Cates was taken into custody and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
