Kentucky has reached a major milestone in its medical cannabis program.

Governor Beshear announced this week that Armory Kentucky, a Tier II cultivator based in Mayfield, has officially introduced the state’s first medical cannabis inventory. Cultivation began last Friday at the Graves County facility after it passed inspection by the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis.

Designed to serve Kentuckians with conditions like cancer, PTSD, and multiple sclerosis, Beshear said the state’s program has seen accelerated development. A new law signed by Beshear in April moved the licensing process up by six months, helping businesses like Armory Kentucky get up and running sooner.

State officials say more licensees—including processors and testing labs—are expected to begin operations in the coming weeks, as the program continues building toward full rollout.

Kentucky legalized medical cannabis in March 2023, with Senate Bill 47 allowing access beginning this past January.

Since then, the Office of Medical Cannabis has licensed 81 businesses and registered more than 400 practitioners—some of which reside in west Kentucky.

More than 17,000 Kentuckians have received written certifications, and more than 11,000 have been issued a medical cannabis card.
