A teenager was killed and several others were injured in a crash in McLean County Wednesday night.
Kentucky State Police Post 16 in Henderson reported they received a call from the McLean County Dispatch around 8:30 p.m. of a single-vehicle wreck on KY 81 near Wallace Lynn Road, north of Calhoun.
According to police, a preliminary investigation found that 18-year-old Leland Thompson of Calhoun was traveling south on KY 81 when his car ran off the right shoulder of the road, causing him to lose control, cross both lanes, strike an embankment, and overturn.
Authorities said Thompson and three juveniles were transported by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police said one 15-year-old girl was transported to Norton’s Children Hospital in Louisville, where she later died from her injuries.
State Police said it’s unknown at this time if all occupants were wearing their seatbelts; however, the investigation is ongoing.
