Drivers need to be aware that a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet began work this week to reconstruct a section of KY 56 in McLean County.
State transportation officials say the project on KY 56 near the intersection with Kentucky 1233 will widen the road and improve visibility by addressing line-of-sight issues with two nearby hills.
Initially, they say crews will be excavating a new roadway on the eastern side of Kentucky 56. While they indicate the impact on traffic should be minimal, drivers should watch for construction trucks and equipment operating near and occasionally entering the road. Lane restrictions with flaggers will be used only when necessary.
After the new road is constructed, traffic will shift onto it so crews can begin removing the old road and complete the new intersection with Kentucky 1233.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-November.
