Webster County Judge Executive Steve Henry and Mayor Tom Glover have declared a State of Emergency for the City of Providence following a major water main break that disrupted service and prompted an ongoing emergency response effort.
Officials with Webster County Emergency Management report that the water main break in Providence has been repaired, and water is now being gradually reintroduced into the system from the Providence Water Plant.
They said the Emergency Interconnect with the Webster County Water District has been activated to help with recovery efforts and stabilize water pressure. However, they noted it will take time for the entire system to return to normal operating levels.
According to officials, a Boil Water Advisory was issued on Tuesday and will remain in effect until further notice. Residents are advised to boil all water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or using it for oral hygiene. They said the advisory applies only to City of Providence water customers and does not affect any customers of the Webster County Water District.
Emergency officials report that a limited supply of bottled water is available at the Providence Fire Department for residents with urgent needs, with distribution limited to one case per household while supplies last. Residents with special needs are encouraged to contact the City Building directly for assistance.
