Since February, Kentucky has experienced three declared natural disasters — adding to what’s been a difficult stretch since December 2021 for the Commonwealth.
During his Thursday “Team Kentucky Update,” Beshear said efforts remain ongoing on all three fronts — as families and individuals work to put their lives back together.
Beshear confirmed that Kentucky hasn’t received approval from President Donald J. Trump’s office for federal public assistance with the April floods, or the tornadoes.
He called it “absolutely necessary,” where a “trillion-dollar government” helps a “billion-dollar government” work through the disasters.
Since February, Beshear also noted:
+ More than $2 million in FEMA aid has come for May tornado survivors.
+ Laurel County, specifically, has collected more than 27,000 cubic yards of debris.
+ February and April storms have prompted more than $73 million in combined federal aid, so far.
+ And 13 roads and three bridges remain closed due to April flooding; with repairs underway.
In other Beshear news, he announced that Kentucky State Police participated in a nationwide child protection effort in April called Operation Safe Online Summer. It led to 16 arrests in the Commonwealth, bringing the total number of online predator arrests since 2019 to 325.
