Firefighters are not only called to battle blazes and respond to emergencies—they also lend a helping hand to the community in unique ways.
That was the case on Monday when Madisonville Fire Station #1 was called to assist with a public service request involving a cat stranded in a tree at 909 West Broadway.
Rescue officials arrived on the scene to handle the non-emergency call and found the cat perched about 16 feet high in the tree. Fire crews reportedly set up a 24-foot extension ladder and used a pike pole to persuade the cat to climb down safely.
After successfully rescuing the cat, no additional assistance was needed, and crews returned to the station.
