A traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Madisonville Tuesday afternoon led to the arrest of a Lyon County man on drug charges after police uncovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.
Madisonville Police reported a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Jacob Lear was stopped for changing lanes without using a turn signal and following another car too closely.
Police stated they knew Lear from previous encounters and were aware that he was a convicted felon. During the stop, officers said they noticed a handgun magazine on the passenger-side floorboard and were given consent to search the vehicle.
During the search, officers reported finding a diaper bag on the passenger seat and found a black zippered pouch inside containing suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a small container with what appeared to be meth residue. Police also noted that Jacob Lear was carrying cash, mostly in $20 bills.
According to police, Lear told officers the meth weighed around 20 grams.
Lear, of Eddyville, was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and careless driving.
