A former Caldwell County deputy jailer, accused of theft, appeared in Caldwell District Court for arraignment on Monday morning.

33-year-old Dustin Driver of Princeton is charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000. He appeared before Judge Matt Schalk via Zoom, from the Fulton County Jail, where he is being held following his arrest last Thursday by Kentucky State Police.

Judge Schalk appointed a public defender for Driver after entering a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Public Defender Mary Rohrer asked the judge to change Driver’s $5,000 surety bond to a Personal Recognizance bond. However, County Attorney Roy Massey, IV, objected, stating that the surety bond is appropriate for the Class C felony charge involving the alleged theft of $14,000.
