Hopkins County Magistrates Pledge Insurance Funds for Humane Society Rebuild

Hopkins County magistrates have taken a significant step toward rebuilding the Humane Society’s facility, pledging that any insurance funds will go directly toward constructing a new permanent home for the organization.

During Tuesday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting, Hopkins County Humane Society Director Dustin Totenza requested that any insurance funds be allocated specifically for rebuilding a new facility.

click to download audioIn response to a question about what residents should do if they have a problem, Totenza said they can reach out to the Humane Society, and they will do their best to guide them to the appropriate resources.

click to download audioJudge Whitfield added that, with the facility unable to take in animals at this time, it’s a bad situation, and he urged residents to care for their pets and not abandon them.

Magistrates unanimously approved the request.
