Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have announced a new traffic closure went into effect along a portion of the Interstate 69 improvement project in Hopkins County on Monday as work along the interstate continues in Madisonville.
According to officials, the left lane of both the north and southbound sections of the road will be blocked through the end of the week between Island Ford Road and the 113-mile point, just south of Center Street. Crews will be working along the median in this section to replace the guardrail and update the crash cushions.
The closures are expected to be removed by the end of the week.
This work is part of the ongoing $10 million interstate improvement project along approximately a 4-mile section of I-69 in Madisonville.
A 55 mph speed limit with enhanced fines remains in effect for the entire length of the project, which stretches from the 113-mile point to the Fowler Road overpass.
