A couple faces meth possession and resisting arrest charges, with the man also accused of assaulting a police officer.

Madisonville Police said officers observed a U-Haul truck in the parking lot while on patrol in the area of Grapevine Lake Monday, with the woman driver asleep and a man who appeared to be intoxicated. Police said the couple refused to provide their names, and when officers attempted to detain the man, he fled, armed with multiple knives. Officers said the man, later identified as Paul Lee of Russellville, resisted arrest, elbowed officers, and kicked one in the face with steel-toed boots during the altercation, while the driver, Gabrielle Lee of Madisonville, attempted to intervene.

Police said they later discovered that Paul Lee had an active parole warrant for his arrest.

According to police, the couple was taken into custody and transported to Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

Both Paul and Gabrielle Lee were charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest, and possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, Paul Lee was charged with assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and providing a false name, while Gabrielle Lee was charged with interfering with governmental operations.

The duo was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
