The Madisonville City Council adopted the annual budget on second reading during a special-called meeting Monday afternoon.
Mayor Kevin Cotton unveiled the 2025-2026 budget of approximately $34 million at a meeting on May 5, which includes investments in streets, sidewalks, and stormwater utilities.
At that meeting, he said the budget also allocates funds for ongoing investments in Fire State 2 on South Main Street, as well as continued support for law enforcement training and park improvements, as well as upgrades and investments in Mahr Park and the current facilities at the Madisonville Regional Airport.
Additionally, Mayor Cotton noted that the budget provides for significant equipment upgrades across city departments and maintains a focus on economic development, including industry, retail, and other enhancements to foster growth.
He also mentioned that the budget will continue to support the community’s youth, highlighted by the Kentucky Sports Factory indoor facility, as well as the addition of the outdoor fields.
According to Mayor Cotton, the overall Capital and Utility Funds total around $23 million for infrastructure projects.
After City Clerk Kim Blue presented the second reading of the 2025-2026 budget, Mayor Cotton expressed his gratitude to the finance team, department heads, and city council involved in the budget process.
