A welfare check conducted by police outside a Princeton motel on Tuesday morning led to the arrest of two men on drug possession charges.

Assistant Princeton Police Chief Shane Allison reported that shortly before 1:15 a.m., officers were sent to the American Inn to check on two men in a running vehicle who appeared to be passed out. Upon checking the welfare of the driver, 36-year-old Donald Taylor of Dawson Springs, and his passenger, 43-year-old Jesse Simmons of Evansville, officers said they could smell marijuana.

According to police, a further investigation revealed Taylor was in possession of meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, while Simmons was found with meth and drug paraphernalia.

Taylor and Simmons were both taken into custody and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, Taylor was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana, while Simmons faced an extra charge of public intoxication. Both men were lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
