Governor Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday in honor of a Kentucky soldier from Muhlenberg County who died in World War II and whose remains were identified last summer.

U.S Army Private First Class, 29-year-old Kenneth D. Burgess from Central City, was a member of Company B, 4th Ranger Battalion, “Darby’s Rangers,” in the Mediterranean Theater. He was reported missing in action following a patrol toward the village of Sala, Italy, on September 25, 1943.

A graveside service and interment with military honors will take place Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Gov. Beshear encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
