The National Weather Service in Paducah said cold air funnels are possible this weekend.

Forecasters shared that the weather setup will be favorable for their development, especially on Saturday. They added that while they appear to be threatening, cold air funnel clouds rarely touch the ground, and if they do, they typically cause minor damage.

Cold air funnels are difficult to detect on radar, but if a report is received of one on the ground and causing damage, the NWS will issue a Tornado Warning.

Any thunderstorms that form on Derby Day are expected to produce small hail and gusty winds.
