Webster County Schools received a $70,000 Kentucky Numeracy Counts Grant to improve kindergarten through 3rd grade education through teacher training and new classroom math tools.
School officials stated that the grant will fund curriculum-based professional development for teachers and the purchase of classroom math manipulatives to enhance instructional units.
Officials explain that math numeracy is the ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts in real-life situations, including counting, problem-solving, measuring, estimating, and interpreting mathematical information. They emphasize that numeracy is vital for academic growth, laying the groundwork for advanced math concepts in later grades. The grant also funds math manipulative kits, providing hands-on opportunities for students to grasp abstract concepts and enhance their problem-solving skills.
