Students at Madisonville North Hopkins High School erected a house frame near the tennis courts last week as part of their Geometry in Construction class’s Habitat for Humanity project.

Officials said parents and friends toured the structure and learned about the Geometry in Construction program. In addition, officials said the event featured the presentation of peer-nominated Golden Craftsman awards to top-performing students Emma Gibson, Grayson Messamore, Maggie Killough, and Jude Gamblin.

During the tours, officials noted that students eagerly highlighted the sections of the structure they contributed to and explained the home’s layout. They said the Geometry in Construction class combines geometry concepts with residential building techniques, providing students with practical skills and a deeper understanding of applied mathematics

School officials reported that the class constructed 35 wall panels for the 1,200-square-foot Habitat home. Other class projects include a Medical Shipping Container Clinic now in Liberia, Africa, participation in the Books and Bunks project with the Rotary Club to build beds, and the construction of eight dog houses for the Humane Society.
