City Council Advances Police Academy Grant, Receives KYMEA Project Updates

Madisonville City Council moved to authorize a grant application related to the new police training academy Monday night and received updates on the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency Energy Central I project.

Before addressing new business, Mayor Kevin Cotton took a moment to recognize City Clerk Kim Blue, who was named the 2025 Municipal Clerk of the Year last week.

click to download audioDuring new business, the Council authorized the completion and submission of the 2024 Grant Program application for the Delta Regional Authority Community Infrastructure Grant, seeking up to $334,400 to support the waterline project at the Western Kentucky Law Enforcement Training Facility.

click to download audioIn other business, the Council unanimously designated several hydraulic rescue tools from the Madisonville Fire Department and transformers from the Madisonville Electric Department as surplus, approving their disposal through appropriate methods.

The Council also approved the appointment of Steve Durham to the Hopkins County Joint Planning Commission, where he will serve the remainder of JW Durst’s unexpired term, ending on October 3, 2025.

During the department reports, Madisonville Electric Department Superintendent Brad Porter gave an update on the Kentucky Municipal Energy Agency Energy Center I Project, noting that a groundbreaking ceremony took place last week.

click to download audioPorter noted that the power generator for the plant is currently under construction and is expected to be delivered in December.
